Punjab Government has been paying special attention to urban development and investing in road infrastructure in the state. This department, under the leadership of Deputy CM, Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been focusing on implementing Low Income Group Housing Scheme, Subsidized Industrial Housing Scheme, etc., and all matters related to the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Board, 1995.

Punjab State Affordable Housing Development Authority has been set up under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to provide “affordable housing for all”.

It has been Punjab government’s commitment that all the major cities and towns of the state would be connected with 4-6 lanes and roads by the year 2017.

An extensive road network is being laid in the state, a pre-requisite for development, which makes Punjab the 2nd state in the entire country to have a road network on such a broad scale.

Deputy CM has been monitoring and reviewing the Change of Land Use (CLU) charges, license fee and external development charges.

10% quota for NRIs has been announced in all new colonies of Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA), Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and other urban development agencies.

Punjab Govt endeavours to construct 1 lakh affordable houses for economically weaker section of the society. A land bank of 300 acres has been made for the purpose.
