Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, is to be credited for the restructuring of the Governance Reforms Department whereby the tasks of Department of Information and Technology and Personnel were reallocated to Governance Reforms Department. Owing to this, the Governance Reforms department has been successfully focusing on administrative reorganisation, streamlining and improvement of office procedures and systems, E- governance of administration besides implementing the report of Administrative Reforms Commission.

It was under his leadership that Punjab Governance Reforms Commission was set up keeping in mind the aim of achieving good governance based on high ethical standards and best practices.

The mandate of the Commission has been to suggest changes in the process, procedures, rules and regulations and design of the public services, ensure dignified access of these services to the disadvantage, marginalized and deprived sections of society including women.

Creation of 2,174 Sewa Kendras is a huge step by this Ministry whereby 1 Centre per 6 villages is provided and 243 public services are made available.
